Germany receives the symbolic baton.
Not only a successful German IJSO student team set off for the International Junior Science Olympiad in Qatar in December. Representatives from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Hessian Ministry of Education (HKM) and the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN) also travelled to Doha. As sponsors or organizers, they presented Germany as the next host on site.
The IJSO2020 image film with Ralph Caspers also celebrated its premiere. It was enthusiastically received by the international audience.
In a symbolic act, Head of Department Haugg (BMBF), together with Ms Hirschler (HKM), consultant for foundations and competitions and Prof. Dr Köller, the IPN's Scientific Director, were ceremonially presented with the IJSO flag at the closing ceremony in Doha. PD Dr. Heide Peters, Chair of IJSO 2020 Germany and longstanding Vice President of the IJSO for Europe, looks to the future: "Next year we will be the hosts of the international competition. We are very much looking forward to this honourable task and will do everything in our power to ensure that the young talents and their supervisors have an unforgettable experience in Germany".
